Every airline has its own rules, and they change with the fare, route and cabin. When we book we tell you what your ticket includes and, when it makes sense, suggest a fare with more baggage.

What to know

Basic fares sometimes include only a personal item under the seat.
Allowed size and weight change by airline: check the ones for your flight.
Paying for bags online before the trip usually costs less than at the airport.
On cruises and connecting flights, confirm whether your bag goes straight to your final destination.

In your carry-on

Medicines, documents, money, jewelry and electronics.
A change of clothes in case your bag is delayed.
Liquids in 3.4 oz (100 ml) containers inside a clear bag.
Power banks and e-cigarettes: never in checked bags.

Better left at home

Valuable jewelry and documents you won't need.
Hair dryer and iron: almost every hotel has them.
Extra clothes: you can do laundry on the trip.

If your bag doesn't arrive

Report it at the airline counter before leaving the airport.
Keep the report number and receipts for what you buy while you wait.
